Site-specific installation / Galerija Remont (NUS prostor), Beograd

The Dazibao installation was presented in 2023 as a site-specific collage on the window of Remont Gallery, shortly before this vital independent space was forced to close in 2024 due to the loss of institutional support and the hostile cultural climate in Serbia. Developed through an intuitive process of free association and the appropriation of imagery from printed media, the work investigates the intersection of visual experience and language, exploring alternative narratives in interpreting the world.

The term itself—Dazibao—refers to the tradition of hand-written, large-character posters used as a tool for public debate and protest. By occupying the gallery’s window, the work functions as an intervention in public space, bridging the gap between abstract concepts and tangible experience. The composition incorporates industrial color charts, textile swatches, and discarded packaging to create a non-linear dialogue and heightened visual stimulation. Through these 'spent' materials, the work exposes the contradictions of social systems and the absurdity of an image economy built upon clichés. It challenges the conservative view that only purely factual, exact knowledge is relevant, asserting instead that art must expose the instability of our contemporary era and the fragments of our reality.
